The DSM5 might be the best way

“The first revolution was put in motion by scientific psychotherapy, based on theories of the mind proposed by Austrian physician Sigmund Freud, the founder of psychoanalysis. Its value was mainly observable in mild mental disturbances, particularly neuroses. But beginning in the 1930s these methods began to be supplemented by physical approaches using drugs, electroconvulsive therapy, and surgery.

The biomedical model was later supplemented with B.F. Skinner…CBT. Cognitive Based Therepy.

The problem is that both models are flawed in their own ways.

“The DSM-5 Task Force was formed at a time when their dream of finally putting psychiatry on a solid biomedical footing seemed within their grasp. The psychoactive drugs were pouring from the pipeline. The journals were filled with enthusiastic reviews of exciting new technologies just around the corner. The KOLs were still KOLs instead of people under suspicion for egregious conflicts of interest.”

Right now the biomed model is busy deconstructing itself and losing credability. The publishing of the DSM5 should be seen as a kind of good thing in this regard. In other words a kind of perfect weapon against a bad idea.

From Frank Herberts Dune:
* “In shield fighting, one moves fast on defense, slow on attack. Attack has the sole purpose of tricking the opponent into a misstep, setting him up for the attack sinister. The shield turns the fast blow, admits the slow kindjal!”
o Gurney Halleck, to Paul Atreides
“Constitutions become the ultimate tyranny,” Paul said. “They’re organized power on such a scale as to be overwhelming. The constitution is social power mobilized and it has no conscience. It can crush the highest and the lowest, removing all dignity and individuality. It has an unstable balance point and no limitations.”
― Frank Herbert, Dune Messiah
in this context substitute constitution for DSM5
“Arrakis teaches the attitude of the knife — chopping off what’s incomplete and saying: “Now it’s complete because it’s ended here.”
The DSM5 will be the point:

What I would hope for is post reconstruction some real science could happen, hybridization of psychoanalytic theory and biomed approaches.
